I am stationed here in Pearl Harbor, HI onboard the USS O'Kane (DDG 77). Originally from Los Angeles, Hawaii is all its made out to be. Mostly pictures, although there aren't enough shots of us actually working.
A day spent in the water. Idiot PacMan made us flip over in the water but it was worth it cuz he cut his foot on the coral. We paddled out to a little island off the coast, we didn't hike it this time, but we did find some fighting crabs.
Here are some shots from Pearl on Dec. 7, the 64th anniversarry of the Japanese attacks. The USS Chafee circumvented Ford Island, passing the bridge and the USS Arizona Memorial at exactly 7:55am - the same time some F-16s flew over in missing man formation. The crew manned the rails and rendered honors.
Diamond head is this huge crater/volcano formation just east of Honolulu. It houses a bunker and a spectacular view. Right after these pics were taken we got caught in a raging tropical rainstorm. My cell phone barely made it out alive.
The trail actually leads you through a WWII-era bunker built into the side of the ridge. It has four decks and mulitple guard posts sticking up out of the ridgeline. Here is a shot of Waikiki from the top.
This was one of a few national cemeteries in Honolulu. It rests inside what looks like a mini-volcano, they call it a puncbowl. The memorial is humbling and beautiful. This Navy chief served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
Some of the many granite memorials along the walkways.
Despite the disgruntled look on my face this was a spectacular spot. The tunnel at the bottom was as far as we could get into a bomb shelter built in the side of the Punchbowl.
We pulled into Kauai at the end of October. This is the island where they filmed Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, the Rundown and more. We took this hike along a ridge, here on some shots from the trail. We didn't take pictures of the T-Rex, didn't wanna scare anybody.
Waimea Canyon, the pictures say it all. You can see this canyon in the first Jurassic Park. It is in the scene where they are climbing the electrified fence.
The O'Kane Christmas bash 2005. The first one is me and fellow sonar tech Shana. Next is a picture of our Combat Systems Officer get his jig on. Last is a picture of some of the fellas (and lady).
